President & CEO of Do Good Work LLC
Dr. Terrell Strayhorn is President/CEO and Senior Research Scientist of Do Good Work Consulting Group.
An internationally-recognized student success scholar, highly acclaimed public speaker, and award-winning writer, Strayhorn is author of 12 books and over 200+ book chapters and journal articles and other scholarly publications. He has given thousands of invited keynotes and lectures at more than 2,000+ universities, schools, companies, and conferences across the globe. Funds exceeding $10 million have supported his research program. Professor, center director, and principal investigator, Strayhorn is Editor of Frontiers in Education (Higher Education Specialty) and sits on several non-profit boards including Minds Beyond Measure, Rainbow Labs, Psychologists of Color, MEN Inc. (Houston), and MCT Educational Foundation, to name a few.
Dr. Strayhorn maintains an active and highly visible research agenda focusing on major policy issues in education: student access and achievement; issues of race, equity and diversity; impact of college on students, and student learning and development. His most popular book, College Students’ Sense of Belonging: A Key to Educational Success, sold record copies nationally and a 2nd edition is now available. His scholarship has informed the development of effective campus/school climate interventions, campus-wide community initiatives, and (re)creation of new or existing educational policies and procedures for fostering belonging at colleges and companies across the U.S. and Canada.
Known for using the hashtag #DoGoodWork on social media, as a way of crowd-sourcing useful content, Strayhorn was named one of the country’s top diversity scholars by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education in 2011, one of Business First’s “Top 40 under 40,” one of the “Top 20 to Know in Education,” and became the youngest full professor in Ohio State’s history in 2014. He has been cited or quoted in major news outlets including the Chronicle of Higher Education, Inside HigherEd, Huffington Post, The Washington Post, and newspapers across the nation for his research/expertise. He has been a guest on several podcasts and radio talk shows.
Prior to the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, Strayhorn worked as a Research Associate at the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) in Washington, DC; public school teacher in the metro DC area; as well as a public health firm. Strayhorn received a bachelor’s degree (BA) from the University of Virginia (UVA), a masters degree (MEd) in educational policy from the Curry School of Education at UVA, and doctorate (PhD) in higher education from Virginia Tech. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated and a native of Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Executive Assistant
Ms. Freeman specializes in project management, executive leadership support, and business consulting. A mother, mentor, and motivational speaker, Freeman earned a bachelors and masters degree in business. She is also Founder of an outreach ministry, with years of pastoral experience.
Director of Outreach & Engagement
Mr. Smith specializes in community outreach, sales, and transactional communication. Originally from Washington, DC, Smith earned an associates, bachelors degree in accounting, with a minor in mass communications, and masters in business administration. His hobbies include rock climbing and dancing.
Media Assistant & Webmaster
Mr. Ndungu specializes in creative communications, digital media, and web authoring. Originally from Kenya, Ndungu is an American graphic designer with an earned bachelors in Strategic Communications from The Ohio State University.
Marketing and Media Intern
Mr. Muhammad specializes in digital technologies, social media, and marketing. Originally from Macon, Georgia, Muhammad earned a bachelors with honors (Magna Cum Laude) in information technology from LeMoyne-Owen College. In addition to his academic success, Muhammad is an award-winning professional golfer.
Administrative / Research Support
Ms. Tenette has an extensive background in management, including program and event planning. She has worked in hospitality, hotel sales, and corporate planning.
Research Associate / Consultant
Mr. Johnson is a PhD candidate at University of the Cumberlands, and his research interests include accessibility and inclusion for Black men living with disability in higher education. He serves at Tusculum University in enrollment management as Director of Graduate and Undergraduate Online Recruitment. He is a new professional and graduate student board member for the Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice.
